Woman in deep claret silk gown draped in vintage textile beside a gilded mirror

Three decades of textiles. One conviction.

Every detail,
a story.

Identity-led re-dressing, bespoke sourcing & design for women and brands ready to wear who they truly are — drawn from the wardrobe you already own, locally sourced secondhand or hand made, with the craft of those who came before.

The Philosophy

A wardrobe is a self-portrait, slowly painted.

We dress, often, in fragments of who we were told to be. Re-dressing is the patient work of returning to who you are — and to the garments already waiting in your wardrobe to say it.

Katie Young's practice is rooted in circular luxury: nothing new bought without reason, nothing beautiful discarded without thought. Old silks are re-cut, heirloom textiles re-imagined, and identity becomes the only true seasonal trend.

"The most considered thing you can wear is yourself."

Services

Three thresholds into a more honest wardrobe.

I

Identity Consultation

An unhurried conversation — your story, your shape, your textures, your colours. We map the visual vocabulary of you before a single garment is touched.

II

Wardrobe Re-Dressing

Working with what you already own. Each piece reconsidered, re-styled, re-paired, or quietly retired. A wardrobe edit that respects both planet and provenance.

III

Bespoke Design & Re-Make

Heirloom fabrics, vintage finds and beloved pieces re-cut by hand into garments made only for you. Slow craft. Couture-level finish. Zero waste, by design.

About Katie

Katie Young

Trained in fashion & textiles design at Manchester Metropolitan University and in Advanced Couture draping at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion, Katie's career has moved seamlessly between worlds — from luxury fashion houses such as Betty Jackson and English Eccentrics to multi-award-winning heritage uniform commissions for clients including Bills and Buckingham Palace.

After thirty years in London, she is now grounded in the rhythms of the Somerset countryside near Glastonbury, where she continues to do what she has always done best: listen to what garments — and the women who wear them — actually want to say.

She is the author of The Textile Touch, and the founder of Bespoke Textiles, Hot Yoga Brixton and the ForeverYoung label. Alongside celebrity commissions for the likes of Femi Oke and Toyah Wilcox, she is proudest of raising two daughters — teaching them to sew from the age of six, just as she was taught.

Her love of vintage and restyling began in childhood. During her parents' divorce she quietly rescued clothes they were about to discard, once stitching two together into a single pussy-bow blouse. She couldn't repair the marriage, but she could repair their clothes — and that early, unconscious weaving became a lifelong language. It led her into the secondhand shops of her seaside home, Burnham-on-Sea, where the only alternative in surrounding Weston-super-Mare and Bristol was cheap fast fashion, and where she chose instead the path of transformation: making each piece unique, fitted, and worthy of wearing. That craft further ignited her love of luxury, exquisite handmade clothes made to last a lifetime, leading her into her passion and career in fashion — combined with her love of yoga over the last 29 years, she deeply understands women and their bodies.

In November 2024, Katie was featured in The Sunday Times Style magazine in Tiffanie Darke's Make Do and Mend article, where her customising practice was distilled into a single line:

"Heal your jacket, heal your life."

Katie Young is the studio she always meant to build — an identity-led practice where re-dressing the old is more interesting than buying the new, and where every commission begins with a single question: how do you want to feel — and will this outfit serve every need you have for today?

I learnt how to use mixed media fabrics, buttons and embellishments to transform a favourite piece. Katie is a lovely, skilled lady — she welcomed us into her beautiful, colourful home and led us through a guided meditation to prepare us for some creative fun. Perfect.

Katie was very friendly and enthusiastic about second-hand and vintage clothing, which made the tour very enjoyable. It was so informative — tips and tricks for second-hand shopping — and I left with a number of lovely items.

Gently Held Questions

For the part of you that's wondering.

"I've lived this too. I'm not here to fix you. I'm here to walk with you." — Katie

What if I'm just not stylish? I've never been good with clothes.

+

This isn't about being fashionable — it's about being in alignment. We're not here to follow trends; we're here to follow truth. Your body already knows what feels like 'you.' This process helps you trust that again.

I've already done so much inner work… shouldn't I be over this by now?

+

This isn't about fixing anything. Every time you evolve, your identity evolves too. This space helps you dress and embody the version of you that's emerging — not stay stuck in a past expression.

I'm in menopause and my body has changed — how can I dress in a way that feels good again?

+

This is exactly why this work matters. We meet your body with grace. When your energy shifts and you start dressing from resonance, your reflection starts to feel like home again.

Since I've had children, I've lost the love of dressing — from need to mothering others, not for me.

+

You deserve to be seen for who you truly are, with your gifts honoured and dressed to empower yourself. We gently return the act of dressing to you.

I love my creative practice but feel isolated in my work and need more connection.

+

This is a circle of women walking the same path — creative, sovereign, and seen. Connection is woven into every gathering.

What if I don't keep up with everything in the Collective?

+

There's no keeping up here. This is a circle, not a course. You come as you are. You take what you need, when you need it. Presence is always enough.

I'm not sure I can afford another membership right now…

+

That's valid — and I trust you to choose what's right for you. I also know that reconnecting with your worth, visibility, and creativity often flows into other areas of life — from how you price your work to how you walk into a room.

I'm shy or nervous about being visible again…

+

This space was built for you. It's gentle, grounded, and welcoming. There's no pressure to be loud or perform. We celebrate slow movements and sovereignty.

Is this only for designers or creatives?

+

Not at all. This is for any woman who feels called to come home to herself — creatively, energetically, and visually. Your life is your canvas.

What if I can't sew?

+

You're not alone — 90% of people no longer sew or have a sewing machine at home. I hold a directory of trusted partnerships across the country: factories, artisans, tailors and seamstresses. If we can't connect you directly, a good local dry cleaner can often show you the quality of their alterations work.
